Our funding partner

Thank you to our founding partner, Samsung Electronics Australia

Social Ventures Australia (SVA) and Samsung Electronics Australia co-created the STEM Learning Hub in 2016 to bring school-based STEM expertise and support to Australian communities experiencing disadvantage, where resources were needed most.

Over a three-year partnership, SVA and Samsung worked to provide STEM education opportunities including critical skills development and improved access to technology for Australia’s most vulnerable students by creating and supporting a collaborative network of schools.

The schools were given access to Samsung technology, tailored support and a variety of professional learning opportunities for educators to enable best practice and improve student outcomes.

Wallarano Primary School

Wallarano Primary School identified that not all their students had access to digital technologies at home which meant their development of digital literacies were impacted. Whilst being part of the STEM Learning Hub, Wallarano PS worked to develop teacher capacity and embed digital pedagogies across the whole school. Students were exposed to practical, real-world experiences and equipment incorporated into STEM units of work. Teachers also now have a better understanding of relevant future skills for students, and their capacity around collaboration and teamwork, construction of student knowledge and using ICT for learning has been built.

Students have become critical and creative thinkers able to collaborate and engage in the wider community, and learning outcomes have continued to improve, with some students NAPLAN results having high relative growth at twice the state average.

‘Having access to Samsung technology has created opportunities for greater student engagement. Samsung has provided students with technology that they otherwise would not have access to, allowing our students the same benefits that children from advantaged schools have. It has assisted by levelling the learning environment; students can now use modern technology to advance their opportunities in the future.’ – Wallarano PS principal

SVA acknowledges the generous support of Samsung Electronics Australia as a major corporate partner and technology partner of the SVA Bright Spots Schools Connection.
